About Village Solar Co
Village Solar Co is based in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The company was founded by Alex Rolland with the intent to make solar energy as accessible as possible. Rolland brought over a decade of solar experience dating back to his first installation in 2009, including pioneering community solar in Vermont and developing commercial projects in the Midwest. The firm designs and installs residential and commercial photovoltaic systems, adds battery storage for whole-home backup, and provides ongoing maintenance and upgrades. Every project is modeled using Aurora Solar software with LIDAR shading analysis, and each installed system includes lifetime panel-level monitoring accessible via phone or computer. The team also performs third-party array repairs and has acted as a subcontractor for other solar developers. Village Solar serves homeowners and businesses across Ohio, with recent projects documented in Hillsboro and the Miami Valley. Its customer base includes residential rooftop installations, commercial arrays, and community solar developments. The company also supports local organizations through sponsorships and partnerships. The business operates under a "People and Planet before Profit" model and was among the first in Ohio to sign the Solar Ethics Pledge from Green Energy Ohio and Solar United Neighbors. It emphasizes ethical marketing, reinvests in the local community through a credit union and above-industry compensation, and provides free lifetime system monitoring.
