About Solar.com
Solar.com is headquartered in Santa Monica, California. The company was founded to give homeowners a fair, upfront price for solar without the traditional sales pitch, though the exact founding year and founders are not publicly disclosed. The company runs an online platform that analyzes a home’s roof geometry and utility data to produce a modeled solar price in roughly 90 seconds. Verified installers then bid on the project, and the homeowner sees the lowest bid alongside multiple financing options — Prepaid Third-Party Ownership (TPO), standard loan, cash purchase, and lease. The platform has facilitated more than 40,000 installations and quoted over $1 billion in solar projects, drawing on a network of over 1,000 vetted installers and having run more than 1 million estimates. Solar.com primarily serves residential homeowners across the United States. Its underlying Electrum platform also powers solar and electric-vehicle programs for utilities such as Duke Energy Carolinas, as well as for municipalities and installer partners nationwide. The business was created to remove opacity from solar financing, which the founders identified as the largest source of cost variation. Its differentiators include a no-pressure digital buying experience, a price backed by live installer bids, and a service commitment called Covered by Solar.com that guarantees annual production, covers roof penetrations for ten years, and backs the installer’s workmanship warranty for 10 to 25 years.
